About

I’m a photographer or maybe an artist… can’t really tell… Sometimes I’m an artist when waking up and feeling the creativity but some days I “just” want to take a camera on my shoulder and photograph whatever that comes in my way. I  have always been told that I need to concentrate on one thing and I have always asked WHY? what’s wrong with trying out different things?  Ok I can agree that if I would concentrate on one thing, for example portraiture in studio which, I really like doing, I would probably become mush better technical but wouldn’t I miss out to get inspirations from other type of photography that could develop my portraiture???

However, I will publish all kind of photography in this blog and I will publish one photograph or film each day for a year… I will be using cameras like Hasselblad  H4D-40, Nikon D4 and Leica X1.

I can’t see a way to ‘like’ the sidebar photo of the bandaged guy holding a lettuce… So I’ll just say it here. Great photo! Love the green-white contrast. 🙂

Thanks a lot. I like to try out new areas in photography though I think contemporary art photography is what I like to do the most, or maybe it’s portraits or landscape…. no I can’t decide 😉

I pay little attention to those who tell me to focus on one thing, subject, technique, etc. In my life I have worn many hats and each one has infused my current work. An artist has the freedom to choose what he or she wants to do, look to Picaso for inspiration; he never quit changing and exploring his art.

    • petrastridfeldt / Jul 4 2012 10:55 pm

Very wise words, thank you. I will try to do as you “pay very little attention to those who tell me to focus on one thing”

Hello! Just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog this week. I’m brand new at this and it’s great to think that fascinating people like you care to read it! Your pictures absolutely blow me away. What talent you have. Can’t wait to see me!

  26. pixygiggles / Jul 7 2012 8:34 pm

So glad you stopped by my blog. Your photos are fantastic! I say keep exploring to your hearts content because mastering a variety of techniques and styles in photography opens the door to a much broader body of work which will be unique to your vision and perspective of the world. You, my dear, are an artist who uses photography as your medium. Your “vision” of that medium distinguishes you from many others. Keep up the great work!

People always tell me to focus on one thing or even stop focusing on creative work all together but I can’t do it. I believe that creativity is universal and a lot of what I learn in photography, I can apply to my writing and music. I look forward to more of your daily photos…thanks for posting them! 🙂

  33. Adrian Lewis / Jul 23 2012 8:30 am

Hi Petra – wow you’re quick at firing off a Like when someone posts – thanks, glad you like the image!

So, you’re on a photo or film a day – that’s hard going, I admire your resolve. As for needing to concentrate on one genre, forget all that, just photograph whatever appeals to you. I try to do that with my blog, one or two on one subject, then change subjects – I admire good images in general and I suppose this “keep changing rule” is the only rule I have!

And keep in mind that “correct photographic technique” is not always the main thing. I’m impressed by your weaponry, especially the D4! I use a D700, and a Canon G11.

Good luck with your 365 project! And thanks again. FATman

    • petrastridfeldt / Aug 5 2012 8:11 pm

Thank you Adrian, I guess I’m lucky to have the cameras I have as they give good quality of the images. However, to make interesting photographs there are no need for an expensive camera. I have used pinhole cameras that I’ve made from old shoe boxes etc. that created very interesting images, it kind of depends on what you want to show with your photographs.

Good to see I’m not alone. Can’t focus on one single thing or field either. There are so many types of photography, not to mention of ways of artistic expressing, it’s a pity to limit to only one. Really awesome, your photographs.

Ok, here’s what I dig about your photos. I can see something with my eye and think, “wow, that’s stunning!” Yet my camera can never quite translate what my eye sees. The photo always seems to lack.

YOUR photos seem to not only capture that wow factor but actually accentuate it, you lucky duck.

  78. Junsjazz / Jan 11 2013 1:34 pm

Hi Petra! I don’t know if you have seen it but I come out with a digital magazine version of my blog Junsjazz Images & Inspiration of which four issues are already online. Its not a commercial magazine, just another online project of mine, an offshoot of my blogging. I plan to release the latest issue by end of January and I’d like to devote a spread for a guest photographer to showcase his/her works (probably 5 to 6 images). Some photo blogger peers have already been featured in the past two issues. I would be honored to have your amazing works presented in Issue #5, if it is alright with you. Of course there will be backlinks to your blog and full credit to you for all your works that may appear in the magazine. By the way, Issue #5 has an all black and white photography theme, and it would be great to showcase some of your remarkable black and white images. Here’s the link to my digital magazines: http://junsjazzimages.wordpress.com/digital-magazine/ I await your reply. Thanks! Best regards!

    JJ

    • petrastridfeldt / Jan 13 2013 7:27 pm

      Hi JJ,
I have just looked at your magazines on your blog and I am very impressed as they look all very good. Of course you can use my work for the black and white photography theme as long as I am credited for it. Are there any specific images you would like to use for the magazine? Please let me know what you need from me.
      Many thanks
      Best regards
      Petra

      • Junsjazz / Jan 14 2013 4:52 am

Thank you Petra for giving the green light. If its not too much to ask may I request a write-up from you – just a short paragraph (3 to 5 sentences) on how you started on photography, things you look out for when capturing images and what inspires you photography-wise. Likewise, I’d like to use this profile pic of yours (sitting with camera) probably you have a bigger size copy of this. This will go beneath your name and before the write-up in the magazine lay out. You can email me these at jazzmanjun@gmail.com. As for the images, I will just pick 6 to 7 of the best black and white pictures from your blog, but if you have preferences just email me the links to these pics. As I normally do, there will be full credit to you and a backlink to your blog. By the way, you will be featured with 4 other photo bloggers (they are probably your followers) but each of you will have your own full spread pages. Thank you so much for your cooperation and support. I’ll keep in touch.~JJ

  79. Amy Saab / Mar 23 2013 2:59 pm

An artist see’s EVERYTHING. I think you should capture it anyway you please, have time for, have effort for, what pays more, this is how I function. Painting as dried up for me, because I don’t have energy. So art for me right now is photography & teaching art. I think being an artist is the most versatile of all trades. I love it & I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your stuff!

    Hi!!
I like your blog a lot, so I’ve tagged you for the Liebster blogging award. Please take part of it! Here are the rules: http://thehatofthemad.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/liebster-award/

  81. lilycatherine / Apr 1 2013 1:36 pm

    ~Photocrossing project~

    Dear Petra,

My name is Christa, I’m the Dutch author of the blog http://www.lilycatherine.wordpress.com. On my tiny part of the world wide web I share everything I love concerning photography, music and lifestyle.

“Altering life by holding it still”

Right now I’m working on this project called Photocrossing. The project found its origin in pure curiosity for the rest of this world. I honestly believe that every place on this planet has its own beauty. Sometimes we tend to forget about it however, since unique environments become normal for its inhabitants over time.

“Exploring this world photo by photo”

The idea behind this project is that we start to appreciate our own environment, by sharing the most beautiful or interesting photographs we have of it. We are hundreds of kilometers away from each other, it’s a whole different world! Two bloggers take a photograph in their own environment, after which they exchange these photographs in order to explore the world bit by bit. (You could also join with a photograph taken at a place you really love, it doesn’t have to be close to your home!) These photographs could be taken at any place. Whether you’d like to show me your garden, the road you travel every day, a city, or that beautiful sunset photograph taken a few miles away; anything is possible as long as the photograph defines your environment! After this we post each other’s photograph together with a brief description of the photo as well as the project.

I’ve been following your blog for some time now and I’d love to work with you on this project! Let me know whether you’re interested, I can’t wait to exchange photographs!

    Kind Regards,
    Christa
