Picture day 208 – A donkey in Morocco

© Petra Stridfeldt

I don’t think there are any other creature on earth that can look so sad as a donkey can. When I have been out traveling in various countries I quite often come across very dirty and very skinny donkeys, I feel very sad and just wonder why people can be so mean to them.

Great composition – central positioning of subject really gives a sad, static feel to the picture.

Yep, agree about the innate talent of donkeys for deep sadness & melancholia. They have a special talent for it. Just think of Eyore, from the Winne-the Pooh books. Often not sad without cause however, I agree with you too that people are often mean or even cruel to them I remember being disgusted years ago, (when I was 12 in fact) & visiting the little steep-sided Greek Island of Santorini with my dad. All the fat heavy tourists, going up the steep hills, with their big bags and heavy cameras, on top of little donkeys, sweating and foaming and their legs creaking under the weight. I wanted to push some of them off the donkeys and down the side of the island. This is a great picture though. Super colours and composition. In fact, there’s something about the way the line of Grey/pink in the wall, lines up with the donkey’s back, that’s beautiful yet also makes it look even more, I don’t know, oppressed? I Great work anyway. Keep it up.

Sweet donkeys seem to be the most abused of all the equine.

Really good picture and I agree too with the other comments. Id like to load up all my heavy bags on one of the tourists mentioned above and force them up a steep hill!! They say that what goes around, comes around – all things will even themselves out sooner or later!
