Picture day 196 – New York

© Petra Stridfeldt

The smoke coming up from the manholes is something I  associate with New York. I guess the reason for that is after watching all gangster movies. However, this is actually shot one night in New York thought I didn’t see any gangsters around 😉

This brings back memories of my first trip to New York in the 1960s; I was amazed to see the “smoke” (isn’t it steam?) really existed, coming up from the street all over the place; the other awe inspiring sight was the ‘skyscrapers’ at night, thousands and thousands of lighted windows. I spent a good part of evenings lying on my back on the pavement (sidewalk) pointing the camera I had with me, a Minox 35 EL, upwards. Sadly, the pictures are long lost, but I still have the camera though it’s not working at the moment.

Of course it is steam… it just look the same 😉 Pity about your lost images but you can always fix your camera and go back there and take some new picture of the steam 🙂

That would be nice! Loved the pic of Rainow by the way.
