Picture day 181 – Hunting tower

© Petra Stridfeldt

This is a hunting tower, which can be seen in many places in Sweden. I read somewhere that there are more than 200 000 spread over the country.  It is used when hunting, especially when hunting elks. There are almost 300 000 hunters in Sweden and as the population is just over 9 million, there are quite a few hunters around ;).

My father in law was a hunter so over the years there has been a lot of elk meat that can be a bit dry but it tastes lovely.

We also got these towers in Germany. I grew up with them. We call them: Hunter’s Seat.
A hunter once explained to me, that there are less hunting accidents, when you got to shoot from high up, coz the bullets will definitely hit the ground and not – well: something else than your prey or soil…
