Picture day 147 – Himba woman in Kaokoland

© Petra Stridfeldt

The Himba people put ochre mixed with fat on the whole bodies so they got a reddish skin tone. We visited one Himba woman who we could ask questions, Edison from previous days picture helped out with the translating. The Himba woman (can’t remember her name) even put some ochre on my white skin, it didn’t look as nice as it did on her though. Edison wanted us to come back next year and he said we could stay in the Himba village and live as Himba people for a week or so, which sounded very interesting.
